Scientific Imaging Group
Photography & Graphics
Full range of digital photographic services. Students have access to graphics computers equipped with image analysis and graphical software, CD writers and a flatbed scanner, colour laser printing.

Confocal Laser Scanning Microscope
We have purchased a new Leica TCS SP5 confocal microscope. It comes with a full range of lasers from near UV to near IR, along with many other features. Newly installed in September 2007

Scanning Electron Microscope
Leica 440 Scanning Electron Microscope, with an Oxford Cryo specimen preparation system, and an Oxford Link ISIS x-ray ED analysis system.

Plant and Animal Histology
Preparation of specimens for all light microscopy. Wax and resin embedding as well as cryo techniques are available.

DNA Sequencer and Genotyping
We are operating a commercial DNA sequencing service using a capillary ABI3130xl Genetic Analyzer, from Applied Biosystems Inc.

Nine glasshouses as well as outdoor space with plant teaching collections and research space. Contherm growth cabinets. PC2 quarantine facilities. Research laboratory equipped with microscopes.

Workshops
Electronics and mechanical workshops. Woodworking, plastics fabrication. Servicing of scientific equipment used in the School of Biological Sciences. The workshop team are able to design and build or adapt many pieces of specialised equipment required for research.
