Funding and Fees
All students at the University of Canterbury pay fees. Overseas students granted admission can expect to pay significantly higher fees than New Zealand residents. It should be noted that students from some countries are exempt from paying international fees. Information for international students intending to enrol at Canterbury can be found at http://www.canterbury.ac.nz/international/.
The University of Canterbury awards a number of research scholarships and prizes each year in order to help postgraduate students (click here for courses). Information on these awards can be obtained from the University Registry (http://www.canterbury.ac.nz/scholarships/). Please note that the closing date for University Postgraduate Scholarships is 15 October. Financial support for M.Sc. and PhD. students can sometimes be obtained from sources outside the University, e.g. a research contract with a government agency.
For some useful information see: http://www.research.canterbury.ac.nz. Biochemistry staff will also, on occasion, offer postgraduate scholarships that are funded by research grants. All M.Sc. and PhD students are encouraged to serve as student demonstrators and instructors in laboratory classes: for this they receive payment (rates determined yearly).
