Successful Field Season (January 2007)
November and December 2006 were a busy time at the field station with
Hazel hosting students from the Federal University of Technology, Yola (FUTY) for a field course (See photo). Steven and Jerome continue with their PhD research and Josie Beck returned from New Zealand to carry out a summer project. Also Matt Walters from UC was staying at the field station to photograph the research and education projects.
Nexen Continues Sponsorship of NMFP (January 2007)
Nexen Nigeria have volunteered to continue their sponsorship of the NMFP through 2007. Thank you Nexen!
NZ Aid Scholarship (January 2006)
Fraser Macdonald is an MSc Anthropology student at UC. He will spend three months at Ngel Nyaki investigating land use amongst the Mambila and Fulani peoples, and the implications of this use for conservation management.
Pump and Pannels Thanks to AWC (January 2006)
The Lagos branch of the American Woman's Community (AWC) is funding a water pump and plumbing, as well as solar panels for the field station.

Station Complete
The NMFP field station is now in operation thanks to a lot of hard work and support. Click on the image to view whole building.
Walk-
a-thon
On Friday, 29 April 2005 The Junior High Senate and National
Junior Honor Society of the American International School
in Lagos joined together to hold a walk-a-thon to raise money
for the Nigerian Montane Forest Project. The students walked
for an hour, followed by a pool party!
The walk a thon raised 48,000 naira towards books for our
new field station library.
New
Field Station
January 1st 2005 saw the start of the building of the NMFP
field station at Ngel Nyaki. It has been built entirely by
the local community, from local resources.
The field station will allow for research to continue all
year round, and allow us to run computers, charge batteries
etc.
Stakeholders
meeting
In April 2004 the Project, with NCF and the State Forestry Department, and funded by WWF (UK) organized a stakeholders meeting in Gembu to discuss the future of Ngel Nyaki. Over fifty people attended the meeting which included representatives from the State Government, Local Government, Fulani pastoralists, Mambilla farmers, local Yelwa people, and village chiefs from other nearby villages. The meeting lasted two days and was a great success.
