We offer two options:

Full service - you provide purified PCR products and PCR primers, we do the rest - $10 per sample.

Capillary separation only - you provided purified sequencing products, we do the rest - $3 per sample.

Please note that we have a 16 sample minimum. That is, if you submit less than 16 samples, these will not be processed until we have obtained additional samples from other internal and/or external clients. The price, however, will remain the same.

Genotyping Service

We offer the following option:

Full service - you supply the internal size standard, you prepare the plate, and we take care of the rest - $3.00 per sample

Prior to delivering your samples, please email the completed request form to us.

Turnaround Time

Our aim is to process your samples as quickly and efficiently as possible without compromising quality. Baring unforeseen circumstances, your results will be returned to you within 24 hours of your booking.

Sample preparation

Sequencing Service

For full sequencing service we require: purified PCR products and PCR primers

PCR products must be free of residual salts, chelating agents (eg, EDTA), proteins, solvents, and buffers. Several PCR purification methods are available. Please choose the product that best suits your needs.

PCR products must be quantified prior to delivery (by eye, Nanodrop, etc). Please provide concentrations in ng/µl.

Please provide PCR primer(s) at a concentration of 3.2 µM.

For capillary separation only service we require: purified sequencing products

We recommend the following sequencing protocol:
Sequencing protocol (pdf 71kb)

Sequencing products must be free of unicorporated fluorescent nucelotides. We recommend the following purification protocol:
Clean-up protocol (pdf 63kb)

Genotyping service

We offer GeneScan 500 LIZ for microsatellite genotyping and MapMarker 1000 ROX for AFLP genotyping.

Please contact us for advice regarding plate preparation, if need be.

Getting your results, viewing your results

Faculty and postdocs – Your results will be sent as attachments (zip files) via email. The maximum file size is approximately 4MB. If you are unable to receive attachments of this size, please contact us and we can arrange for an alternative method of return.

Postgrads and undergrads – Due to IT constraints, your results cannot be sent via email. Rather, we will copy your results to a flash drive. Please contact us to arrange for a suitable time to do this.

To view your results you may wish to view (and analyse) your results using one of the many freeware programs available on the web.

For sequence data, we suggest Bioedit for PC users and FinchTV for Macintosh users.

For genotype data, we suggest GeneMarker for PC users (to our knowledge there isn’t an equivalent program available for Macintosh users).

Confidentiality and archive service

Confidentiality

We are pleased to assure that your results are confidential are available only to you.

Archive service

Because we maintain an archive, please contact us if you would like to obtain any of your prior results. Please note there may be a small charge for this service.
